This blog is intended to be a source of information about learning and collaborating in a digital world for deputy principals in NSW!
Each week, or at worst, fortnight, there will be a brief, easily digestible post, that explores a practical application of digital technologies for educational leaders. You will see on the righthand side toolbar of this blog, a growing collection of useful links, videos as well as ‘tag’ and ‘category’ clouds. More on ‘folksonomies’ later.
It is envisaged that as DPs in NSW increasingly develop online profiles, blogs and wikis that this ‘Deputy Principals Online blog’ will have a growing number of links from the blogroll on the right. The best blogs have many comments and please feel encouraged to post your thoughts, links and ideas here.
Please comment
Please post a comment to show that you have read and can participate in conversation at our blog. Maybe your name and school, or if you do not feel comfortable with that, a comment about an area you would like this blog to explore.
Please consider following the Association’s twitter account.
The next post will be about Web 2.0 tools.

Welcome to the blogisphere, a great early post would be to show how DPs can use Google reader to keep up todate with that and those that intest them such as this blog without going searching everytime.

Well done so far and am looking to collaborating, sharing, reflecting, lurking, reading and learning with fellow DPs from around the state!!!
An idea could be to have a regular topic/prompt that encourages each DP that reads/subscribes to this blog to have input – so we get to learn more about our colleagues and read their opinions/experiences/knowledge on a range of educational issues???
As a regular item, it could be given a groovy/catchy name and we could all commit to contribute to it each time a new prompt is added???
Something like “DP Discourse” … (OK it’s late – if this idea gets off the ground the first item could be to get the members ofthe blog to come up with a catchy name.
Topics could be as basic as implementing uniform codes in our school, or as current as the My School website and our thoughts on that, it could be the most positive aspects of our jobs, how we divide our roles up in 2 DP schools, how we lead change, difficult staff, the highlights of our jobs … etc…
What do you think?
Also we could have an Introduction section where we complete a little profile about ourselves, so we get to know a little about who the regular contributors are? It could include where we teach, how long we have been DP, the type of school (selective, comprehensive, senior, etc…) if we are a solo DP or part of a duo etc….???
What do you think?
Deanna 🙂

Good ideas, Deanna. There is absolutely no reason why dialogue about any issues at all to do with schooling and ideas could not be explored. I will think on it too.

Hi Darcy and fellow DPs
Great idea. I agree with Ben for our first blog I would like some information on Google Reader. I have had difficulty using it.
What about ‘Deputy’s Dialogue’ for a name.
Thanks
Tony

I like the idea of this new found level of communication but perhaps more importantly a quick and effective source of collaboration and support. Might be worth considering how we use this to support new Deputies in their induction year or should I say years…

Great to see all the comments and suggestions. A good start, folks!
I particularly like the ‘induction’ idea from Ross Warren. Anyone want to write a ‘guest’ post about a funny, yet instructive experience from their own early DP years? It would be great if someone want to write a few brief words about ‘induction’ – even a list of tips or a link to other ideas.
Here’s a tip from a colleague: visiting every staff room regularly helps you, and the teachers, to feel comfortable around each other. The DP arriving at a faculty is not ever a ‘conversation-stopping’ experience if people recognise it could be for a variety of purposes, including a bite to eat, cup of tea or informal chat. It is a winning strategy!

It would be interesting when Dp’s comment in the blog from now on if they state their professional learning interests so the Association has a better idea of what to offer at future conferences and insevices.
Its great to see the level of DP interest in this form of communication.
